Torch Lake

A Visit Down Memory Lane

After the Harris fam left, we went over to Torch Lake to take a few pics of the cottage where our children grew up. ("Palmer House") It will soon be moved to a new location and I wanted to keep some of those memories on hand. As I was taking some pictures from the outside, I looked down on the lake and spotted Tom standing on the dock. He looked just like my dad from a distance...with his hands on his hips and long legs. Susan was just finishing up a swim.
It was fun to see them and catch up on what the plans were to be for the new cottage.

And the tiny beach that we crowded on, cooking hot dogs and s'mores. Molly telling Patrick to eat the sand...it was "brown sugar".

In this kitchen, we had white fish dinners, (made by Grammy), blueberry pies, burnt chicken pot pie for Andrew Chandler, in the winter and summer.

The family room... we brought new babies, who grew up to have babies of their own.
We played card games, wrestled and broke Paddy's tooth (Thanks, Moll), read book after book, and watched Carrie Matson do the "shopping cart" dance while I fell off my chair laughing so hard.

The porch...Dad would sit on the couch and read and snuggle with his grandkids. We would eat lunch and dinner and celebrate summer birthdays. A great place to just look at the perfect view of Torch...the most beautiful blue of all lakes.

What a view from those windows!

The front door...in the winter, it was a walk through the snow.

The stairway down to the lake was built by our own, Terry L. McNutt. When he built it, we had Sarah (almost 5) and Molly (almost 2). Paddy was yet to grace our presence. We spent most of the week building it...or rather Terry did, while I watched the kids. It was a surprise for Mom and Dad. They really appreciated the stairway and Dad had this plaque put up.

The bedroom across from the washer and dryer...how about those puppet shows through the curtain sheets? Remember the finale where a hand came out and grabbed me? You thought that I was hilarious.

Many, many fun times. Goodbye little yellow cottage. Good memories.
